Cycling for a Cause: River Cyclothon 2023 Advocates Cleanliness and Conservation of Indrayani

In an earnest effort to promote cleanliness and conservation of the Indrayani River, Pune MLA Mahesh Landge spearheads the ‘River Cyclothon 2023,’ a cycling event designed as part of the Indrayani River Cleanliness Awareness Campaign. With a focus on creating a pollution-free and pristine environment for the beloved river, this initiative previously earned recognition in the prestigious India Book of Records.

Scheduled to unfold on December 2 at 6 am at Bhosari Gavjatra Ground, the event seeks to establish a new Guinness World Record for the ‘Longest Line of Bicycles (Static).’ Furthermore, on Sunday, December 3, the River Cyclothon Rally will grace the Bhosari Gavjatra Ground, as announced by Labour Leader Sachin Landge.

Dr. Nilesh Londhe, the Chief Coordinator of River Cyclothon, along with key figures like Sachin Landge, Digambar Joshi of Aviral Shramdaan, and various representatives from social organizations, will be actively involved in the event.

The River Cyclothon, set for Sunday, will feature three divisions: 5 km, 15 km, and 25 km, aiming to attract over 25,000 cyclists. The Pimpri Chinchwad Police Department is taking charge of organizing the cyclothon this year, placing a significant focus on road safety and adherence to traffic regulations.

In addition to the cycling event, the campaign incorporates strategies to reduce noise pollution. Designating every Monday as a ‘horn-free’ day, the initiative emphasizes the importance of refraining from unnecessary honking. To further promote environmental consciousness, every Wednesday has been marked as Cycle Day, encouraging the use of bicycles.

Various organizations, including Continuous Shramdaan, Cycle Mitra, Mahesh Dada Sports Foundation, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, and the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Department, have collaborated to make these initiatives a reality. The organisers have reached out to schools and housing societies in the Pimpri Chinchwad area to raise awareness about the programs and the ongoing Indrayani river cleaning campaign.

Shekhar Singh, the Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Vinay Kumar Choubey, the Police Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad, and MLA Mahesh Landge collectively call upon all residents of Pimpri Chinchwad to actively participate in this noble endeavor.
