Revitalizing Travel: Sabzi Mandi Railway Station Undergoes Transformation in the Amrit Bharat Scheme

Under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the Sabzi Mandi Railway Station in Delhi is set to undergo a comprehensive transformation. With an estimated investment of approximately 27 crores, the redevelopment project aims to modernize infrastructure, streamline passenger flow, and address longstanding parking issues. Scheduled for completion by March, the initiative is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to revamp 508 railway stations across the country.

Background of the Scheme

The foundation for the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 6 last year, marking a significant step towards enhancing railway infrastructure. The Sabzi Mandi Railway Station is one of the chosen stations for this extensive redevelopment, with yard remodeling also included in the overhaul plan, as highlighted by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM)’s Executive Advisor, Prem Shankar Jha.

Current Developments

Several key improvements are already underway at the Sabzi Mandi Railway Station:

  1. Repairs to platform surfaces are in progress.
  2. A washable apron, made of concrete under the tracks, has been constructed to enhance cleanliness.
  3. Materials for a new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) have been acquired, with construction set to commence shortly.
  4. Alternative routes have been organized to minimize passenger inconvenience during excavation work on the station premises.

Upcoming Enhancements at the Station

The next phase of the redevelopment will introduce a host of facilities to elevate the overall passenger experience:

  1. Development of the main building and lighting system.
  2. Establishment of a cafeteria.
  3. One Station-One Product (OSOP) stall.
  4. Development of waiting rooms, toilets, and other passenger amenities.
  5. Improvement of the station premises and parking area.
  6. Separate entry and exit gates for efficient passenger movement.
  7. Additional shelters and enhancements on platform surfaces.
  8. Facilities catering to differently-abled passengers, including ramps, toilets, water supply, and entrance signage.
  9. Decorative pillars (6 meters) in the station premises.
  10. Installation of modern signage boards and uniform display boards at entrances/exits.
  11. Executive/Reserved Lounge/VIP rooms.
  12. Enhanced passenger announcement system.
  13. Construction of a new 12-meter-wide FOB.
  14. Provision of six escalators and four lifts.

As the Sabzi Mandi Railway Station undergoes this significant transformation, the Amrit Bharat Scheme stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to modernizing railway infrastructure and improving the overall travel experience for passengers.
