Delhi-NCR Schools Closed Due to Severe Heatwave: Residents Advised to Take Precautions

Delhi-NCR finds itself sweltering under the oppressive grip of a severe heatwave, prompting authorities to take swift action to ensure public safety. The Meteorological Department’s issuance of a red alert for the next four days underscores the gravity of the situation, necessitating precautionary measures to mitigate the impact of the scorching temperatures.

School Closures:

In response to the extreme heat conditions, schools in Delhi and Noida have been shuttered, while those in Ghaziabad, up to the eighth grade, have also been temporarily closed. This proactive measure aims to safeguard students and staff from the adverse effects of the blistering heat. Similar closures have been observed in Punjab, with altered school timings in Himachal Pradesh as well.

Temperature Overview:

Monday witnessed record-breaking temperatures across the region, with the Safdarjung Observatory recording a maximum temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius, significantly above normal. Najafgarh and Mungeshpur reported staggering temperatures of 47.4 and 47.1 degrees Celsius, respectively, amplifying the discomfort caused by the heatwave.

Regional Temperatures in NCR:

  • Faridabad: 46 degrees Celsius
  • Gurugram: 44.8 degrees Celsius
  • Noida: 45.6 degrees Celsius
  • Pitampura: 31.9 degrees Celsius
  • Rajghat: 31.0 degrees Celsius
  • Aya Nagar: 30.1 degrees Celsius
  • Pusa: 30.9 degrees Celsius
  • Najafgarh: 30.5 degrees Celsius

Reasons for Extreme Heat:

The sweltering conditions gripping the NCR region stem from hot and dry winds emanating from the Thar Desert. Additionally, the absence of any western disturbance exacerbates the situation, particularly impacting areas like Najafgarh and Mungeshpur.

Precautionary Measures:

With temperatures expected to soar further in the coming days, authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and prioritize their well-being. Hydration and staying indoors during peak heat hours are recommended strategies to combat the extreme weather conditions.

Conclusion:

As Delhi-NCR grapples with the relentless heatwave, concerted efforts are underway to ensure the safety and comfort of residents. By adhering to precautionary advisories and exercising vigilance, individuals can navigate through this challenging period with resilience and caution.
