Delhi-Meerut Expressway Toll Rates Revised: Commuters to Face Increased Charges

NHAI Announces Toll Hike Effective April 1st; Impact on Travel Expenses Explored”

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced a significant revision in toll charges on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, affecting the pockets of daily commuters and travelers alike. Effective from April 1st, motorists driving private four-wheelers will encounter escalated toll fees at various toll plazas along this route.

Key Updates on Toll Charges:

  1. Increment in Rates:
    • Previously, the toll for the Delhi to Meerut route at the Chijarsi (Pilkhua) toll plaza stood at INR 165, which has now been increased to INR 170. Similarly, travelers from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut will witness a rise from INR 160 to INR 165 at the Kashi (Partapur) toll plaza.
  2. Monthly Passes Affected:
    • Monthly passes, a convenient option for regular commuters, have also undergone a price hike. Passes available at the Chijarsi toll plaza, previously priced at INR 330, are now marked at INR 340.
  3. Scope of Revision:
    • The toll rate adjustments extend beyond private vehicles to encompass commercial vehicles as well. Commercial vehicles registered in Hapur, for example, will now be charged INR 170 for a single journey and INR 340 for a monthly pass at the Chijarsi toll plaza.

The NHAI justifies this increase, citing it as part of routine updates aimed at ensuring the optimal maintenance and functionality of expressways and national highways across the country. However, this surge in toll charges undoubtedly impacts the financial burden on commuters, both individual motorists and commercial fleet operators.

Furthermore, the ripple effect of toll hikes is not limited to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway alone. The NHAI, in conjunction with the Haryana Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), has also announced similar adjustments at tolls within the Gurugram region, adding to the financial strain on frequent travelers.

As travelers brace themselves for these heightened toll charges, it’s evident that the cost of commuting is set to escalate, prompting a closer evaluation of travel expenses and potential implications on budget allocations.
