Delhiites are advised to keep their umbrellas handy as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted thunderstorms accompanied by rain for the capital city this Sunday. With the maximum temperature expected to soar to around 43 degrees Celsius, residents are urged to prepare for a mix of weather conditions.

Heat Wave and Gusty Winds

Sunday’s weather forecast for Delhi includes mostly cloudy skies, along with a heat wave and the possibility of either a dust storm or a thunderstorm. Gusty winds with speeds reaching 30-40 km/h are anticipated, adding to the challenging weather conditions.

Above-Seasonal Minimum Temperature

On Saturday, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 30.4 degrees Celsius, which is notably 4.2 degrees above the seasonal average, as reported by the weather department. This indicates warmer nights for residents, contributing to the discomfort caused by the prevailing heat.

Thunderstorm Alert for Delhi and Neighboring Areas

The Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) in New Delhi has issued a thunderstorm alert for various parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), including Ghaziabad, Noida, and Faridabad. Additionally, parts of neighboring states are also expected to experience moderate rainfall and gusty winds.

Moderate Air Quality Index

Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was measured at 184 in the moderate category at 9 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. With an AQI between 101 and 200, the air quality is considered moderate, urging sensitive individuals to take necessary precautions.

Rainfall Alert in Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema

Apart from Delhi, the IMD has issued alerts for heavy rainfall in isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), Rayalaseema, and Yanam for the next five days. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are expected in these regions.

Mixed Weather Conditions Ahead

The weather forecast indicates hot, humid, and uncomfortable conditions over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh on June 1, 2, and 4. Meanwhile, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over NCAP, Yanam, SCAP, and Rayalaseema on June 3 and 5.
