Residents Advised to Prepare as Intense Rainfall Expected in the Capital
New Delhi is on alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall within the next 24 hours, urging residents to take necessary precautions and prepare for the inclement weather.
Pleasant Climate Precedes Rainfall: New Delhi experienced a pleasant climate with light drizzling in certain areas on Wednesday night, maintaining daytime maximum temperatures without a significant rise. The weather, influenced by strong northwesterly winds, has kept the maximum temperature below average, contributing to a cool atmosphere in the capital.
Steady Climate with Limited Rainfall: Despite regular occurrences of Western Disturbances in March, which typically lead to increased wind speeds and improved air quality, the month witnessed minimal rainfall. Delhi’s Safdarjung weather station recorded only 4.3 millimeters of rainfall in March, significantly lower than the usual average of 17.4 millimeters. Similar trends were observed in January, reflecting a substantial decrease in precipitation.
Temperature Trends and Forecasts: The cool air from the northwestern direction has brought a refreshing chill from the mountains to Delhi. Safdarjung weather station reported a maximum temperature of 31.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 18.4 degrees Celsius on Monday, aligning with normal temperatures for this period. Humidity levels fluctuated between 90 to 30 percent, contributing to the comfortable weather conditions.
Air Quality Index (AQI) Readings: Despite the impending rainfall, Delhi’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 133 points, indicating relatively cleaner air compared to previous months. The Central Pollution Control Board forecasts continued improvement in air quality in the coming days.
