Unlocking the Beat: YouTube Music and HomePod Team Up with Siri

In an exciting development for music enthusiasts, Google has expanded the reach of its YouTube Music service by enabling compatibility with Apple’s HomePod. This integration now grants subscribers the ability to enjoy their favorite tunes from YouTube Music on the HomePod through voice commands via Siri.

Apple opened the doors to third-party music services on HomePod in 2020, a move designed to broaden user options and promote healthy competition among music platforms. After three years, YouTube Music has joined the ranks, bringing its vast library to the HomePod.

This feature has been a topic of discussion since late September, and Google discreetly unveiled the integration through a Reddit post on a recent Friday. The great news is that it is accessible to all YouTube Premium and Music Premium subscribers across the globe.

How to Set Up YouTube Music on HomePod

Setting up YouTube Music with your HomePod is a straightforward process. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Ensure you have the latest version of YouTube Music installed on your iOS device.
  2. Open the app and navigate to “Settings.”
  3. Select “Connected Apps” within the settings.
  4. Choose “Connect with HomePod.”

Once you’ve completed these steps, you can use Siri to play your favorite tracks from YouTube Music. For instance, you can say, “Hey Siri, play music on YouTube Music,” and your HomePod will seamlessly comply with your request.

Moreover, you can elevate the convenience by making YouTube Music your default music provider. To do this, follow these steps in the Home app:

  1. Launch the Home app.
  2. Access “Settings.”
  3. Tap on your username.
  4. Select “Default Service.”
  5. Pick “YouTube Music.”

By designating YouTube Music as your default music provider, you can streamline voice commands by eliminating the need to specify “on YouTube Music” in your requests. Siri will intuitively prioritize results from YouTube Music.

YouTube Music now joins the exclusive club of music streaming services that have integrated with HomePod. This select list includes popular names like Pandora, Tidal, Deezer, and, notably, Apple Music. With these integrations, HomePod users can curate their listening experience with a wide array of music platforms.

This recent development not only enriches the music ecosystem on HomePod but also highlights the increasing openness of smart devices to interoperability, enabling users to enjoy their music seamlessly, regardless of their preferred music service.
