In the realm of artificial intelligence, the recently launched chatbot @Krutrim, claiming to be ‘India’s own AI,’ has stirred controversy with an incorrect response that has now gone viral on social media. The blunder occurred when the chatbot was asked about the winner of the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
While cricket enthusiasts know that India, led by Kapil Dev, emerged victorious by defeating the two-time champions West Indies in the final, the AI chatbot’s response was shockingly inaccurate. It stated, “The 1983 World Cup was won by the West Indies cricket team. They defeated England in the final, held in England. The West Indies won the tournament by a large margin, showcasing their dominance in the cricket world at the time.”
This misinformation has sparked discussions on the reliability of AI-generated content and the need for accuracy in disseminating historical facts, especially in sports, where events hold significant cultural importance.
Former Indian cricket team captain Sunil Gavaskar recently acknowledged Kapil Dev’s influence on India’s fast-bowling prowess. Reflecting on Kapil Dev’s impact, Gavaskar stated, “He has shown that in India you don’t necessarily have to be a spin bowler. Even in Indian pitches, one can take wickets. Now India has a bench strength of fast bowlers, which probably is going to be the envy of the cricket world.”
