Pune: PM Modi to be felicitated with a special victor’s headgear in the city

PM Narenda Modi

Pune: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a big public rally at the racecourse on Pune-Solapur road today. Modi is visiting the city to campaign for the four Maha Yuti Lok Sabha candidates from the district.

The BJP Pune City Unit and the BJP District Unit will hold a grand felicitation of PM Modi. Whenever the Prime Minister visits the city, a special ‘pagdi’ (traditional headgear) is presented to him. It always bears the mark of Marathi culture. Pune’s famous Murudkar Zendewale has been designing such pagdis.

This time, too, Murudkar Zendewale has made a special pagdi called the ‘Digvijay Yoddha Pagdi’.

What is special about the pagdi?

The cotton pagdi has been handcrafted and has a special design that allows circulation of air from all sides. It is decorated with symbols made of ‘panchdhatu’ (a traditional alloy made from five metals) indicating good omen. The pagdi has gold-plated historical ‘koyrya’ symbols, a diamond-studded sun symbol and Goddess Tuljabhavani’s image at the top. It is placed on a royal stand decorated with seven triumphant horses symbolising allround victory.

Murudkar Zendewale has made 20 pagdis till date for the PM

Murudkar Zendewale is among the oldest traditional headgear makers in the city. They design ‘phetas’ and ‘pagdis’ of various types. They have a research team, which designs customized headgear as per historical traditions. Murudkar Zendewale has made 20 such pagdis for PM Modi till date. This time also, the special pagdi has been handcrafted.

Air-conditioned pagdi

The special pagdi is designed in such a way that air is circulated from all its sides and would provide comfort to the PM. This feature has been specially added due to the current sweltering heat in the city. PM Modi will be felicitated with the special Maratha Digvijay Yoddha Pagdi at the beginning of the public meeting today.
