Ajit Pawar Calls Meeting of NCP MLAs Amid Resignation Offer as LoP

Days after expressing his willingness to resign as the Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly and his desire to work for the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Ajit Pawar has called for a meeting of MLAs who support him.

Ajit Pawar’s discontent reportedly stems from being denied the opportunity to work as the state unit chief of the NCP. The matter of his resignation was discussed by the NCP national executive earlier this week, and party leaders have indicated that a final decision will likely be reached within two months.

His demand for resignation had been previously addressed by NCP chief Sharad Pawar, who stated that the party would make a decision based on Ajit Pawar’s request. Ajit Pawar, in the past, has denied rumors of him joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The meeting of NCP MLAs supporting Ajit Pawar is currently underway at his official residence, Devgiri. The number of MLAs attending the meeting has not been officially disclosed, and the gathering was initially scheduled to take place on July 6 in the presence of Sharad Pawar.

In attendance at the meeting are also the party’s national working president, Praful Patel, and Supriya Sule. However, Sule has left the meeting for reasons yet unknown.

Prior to the meeting, NCP state president Jayant Patil had a telephonic conversation with Sharad Pawar, who is currently in Pune. Keeping a close eye on the unfolding political developments, Sharad Pawar has decided to remain in Pune and has reportedly canceled all his previously scheduled programs.

It’s worth noting that in 2019, Ajit Pawar had aligned with BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis and took an oath as the state’s deputy chief minister alongside Fadnavis as the chief minister. However, this rebellion lasted for only three days, and Ajit Pawar eventually returned to the NCP fold.
