Goa’s Tourism Minister, Rohan Khaunte, expressed deep concern on Thursday about this disturbing trend. Recognizing the urgent need for safety awareness, Khaunte announced that the tourism department is preparing to release a detailed circular. This initiative aims to educate both tourists and locals about the importance of conducting comprehensive safety evaluations before embarking on excursions, especially in potentially hazardous areas.

Despite Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s repeated pleas for the public to avoid swimming in deep waters, drowning incidents continue to occur in Goa. In response to this persistent issue, district collectors in both North and South Goa have issued orders prohibiting swimming in several water bodies, including waterfalls, abandoned quarries, and rivers, as the monsoon season approaches. These bans will remain in effect until further notice.
The directives issued by the district administrations serve as a firm warning about the dangers of swimming in these designated areas. They emphasize the legal consequences of ignoring these orders, referencing Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, which addresses disobedience that endangers human life, health, or safety.
