Pune: Tamhini and Shirgaon Witness Record-Breaking Rainfall in the Past 24 Hours

Pune and its neighboring districts have experienced a significant surge in rainfall activity over the past few days. The ghat sections in the district, particularly Tamhini Ghat and Shirgaon, have recorded an astonishing rainfall measurement of over 200 mm in the last 24 hours, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

The official data reveals that Tamhini received a whopping 210 mm of rainfall, while Shirgaon recorded a close 209 mm of rainfall within the span of 24 hours. Other areas such as Lavasa and Lonavala have also been blessed with substantial rainfall, with Lavasa receiving 105.5 mm and Lonavala receiving 94.5 mm in the same duration.

In response to the escalating rainfall, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Pune today, indicating a high possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places, particularly in the ghat areas. Furthermore, a yellow alert has been issued for the subsequent two days, suggesting the likelihood of heavy rainfall in isolated ghat areas on July 2 and 3.

The increased rainfall activity in Pune and its surroundings is a welcome relief for the region, as it helps replenish water bodies, maintain ecological balance, and provide respite from the scorching summer heat. However, heavy rainfall can also pose challenges, such as waterlogging and disruption of transportation in low-lying areas. Therefore, it is important for residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions during such weather conditions.
