IMD Pune to Host Meteorological Exhibition Showcasing Climate Action Efforts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Pune, in collaboration with Climate Research and Services India (CRS), is set to organize a Meteorological Exhibition on March 23, commemorating World Meteorological Day. With the theme “At the Frontline of Climate Action,” the exhibition aims to showcase the crucial role of meteorology in addressing climate challenges.

Scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, the exhibition will be inaugurated by Dr. Anupam Kashyapi, Scientist G, and Head-in-Charge of CRS Pune, at the premises located in Shivaji Nagar, Pune.

Attendees can expect live demonstrations of meteorological instruments, informative sessions on earthquake recording techniques, meteorological services for air navigation, and firsthand experiences in weather observation. Additionally, various aspects of meteorology and seismology will be highlighted, including a screening of a film on the Expedition to Antarctica.

Shrikant Bhagwat, a Meteorologist, shared insights into the exhibition, stating, “All the instruments of the department will be shown. Moreover, how do we conduct weather forecasts and how our data is received by the Meteorological center. Temperature observations models will also be shown.”

The exhibition underscores the commitment of IMD Pune and CRS Pune to advancing meteorological science and services for the nation. The collaborative effort aims to raise awareness about the importance of meteorology in understanding and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
