IIT Guwahati Fortifies Global Ties with Canadian and Japanese Universities

Guwahati : The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has taken a significant stride towards global collaboration by signing four Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with esteemed international educational institutions. The partnerships, inked on March 3, 2024, with Dalhousie University, Canada, and Gifu University, Japan, are poised to foster academic excellence and groundbreaking discoveries through joint programs and collaborative research initiatives.

These transformative agreements were formalized during the ‘Japan-NER Bioeconomic Technology Cooperation Symposium 2024’ (JNBTCS-2024), a 3-day event hosted by IIT Guwahati from March 3 to March 5.

The MoU with Dalhousie University sets the stage for joint doctoral programs that aim to cultivate dynamic research collaborations between scholars and students from both institutions. By facilitating exchange programs, encouraging joint research activities, and promoting the sharing of research materials, this partnership seeks to create a rich academic environment conducive to groundbreaking discoveries and academic excellence.

Furthermore, the MoUs with Gifu University, Japan, encompass a diverse array of initiatives. The International Joint PhD Program, spanning three years, involves collaborative course design to provide students with a comprehensive educational experience. Scholars will benefit from collective guidance and mentorship from faculty members at both institutions, ensuring rigorous academic standards and fostering innovative research outcomes.

An additional agreement covers a 2-year ‘International Masters Joint Degree Program in Food Science and Technology,’ emphasizing collaborative coursework and dissertation evaluation between Gifu University and IIT Guwahati. This program aims to address challenges in building a sustainable society by optimizing resource utilization and cultivating highly skilled professionals in food science and related fields.

Moreover, IIT Guwahati and Gifu University have established a ‘Glocal Expert Program’ under the Inter-University Exchange Project (IUEP). This international joint-certificate initiative allows students to obtain certification from both universities as exchange students, promoting cross-cultural learning and enhancing global competencies.

Professor Rajeev Ahuja, Officiating Director of IIT Guwahati, expressed the institution’s commitment to supporting students’ academic and personal growth through these programs. He emphasized that these collaborations aim to provide students with diverse learning experiences and opportunities for growth, fostering a holistic educational environment at IIT Guwahati.
