Pune: Regiment of Artillery Honors 197 Years of Heroic Service on Gunners Day

On September 28, 2023, the Regiment of Artillery commemorated a historic milestone as they celebrated the 197th Gunners Day, an occasion of immense significance in their illustrious history. This date holds a special place in the hearts of the Regiment of Artillery, as it marks the day when the 5 (Bombay) Mountain Battery was raised, an event that is cherished as Gunner’s Day.

A Glorious Legacy: The Regiment of Artillery takes immense pride in its storied past, adorned with rich traditions and heroic accomplishments. Throughout history, it has consistently proven to be the decisive factor in battles whenever the nation’s integrity faced threats. The Gunners have earned commendation for their exceptional contributions, particularly in ongoing counter-terrorism operations. Renowned for its professional excellence, unwavering dedication, and unwavering devotion to duty, the Regiment has dutifully served the nation in times of both war and peace, as well as during international missions and natural disasters. Its illustrious history is adorned with numerous honors and awards, including the prestigious Victoria Cross, Distinguished Service Order, Military Crosses, Ashok Chakra, Maha Vir Chakras, Kirti Chakras, Vir Chakras, Shaurya Chakras, and many more, reflecting the valor and dedication of its members. Over the years, the Regiment has earned 42 Battle Honour Titles in recognition of its exceptional valor, both before and after independence. Additionally, the Regiment takes pride in producing internationally acclaimed athletes, having been honored with Padma Shri Awards, Arjuna Awards, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan Awards.
