AFMC Pune Honored with Unit Citation by CDS for Exemplary Services

The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune, one of the nation’s premier medical institutions, was bestowed with a prestigious unit citation by General Anil Chauhan, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), on March 18, 2024, at a ceremony held at AFMC.

The unit citation, a testament to AFMC’s exceptional commitment and exemplary services rendered from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, was received by Lieutenant General Narendra Kotwal, AVSM, SM, VSM, Director & Commandant, AFMC, along with Subedar Major RK Singh, amidst serving and retired dignitaries from the armed forces.

As one of the first medical colleges established by the Armed Forces in Asia, AFMC has consistently ranked among the top three medical colleges in the country and was awarded an A+ grade with a CGPA of 3.45 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. Embracing cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Precision Medicine, and Telemedicine, AFMC has remained at the forefront of medical advancements, enhancing healthcare practices and contributing to national and global medical innovations.

Recognized for its 75 years of exemplary service to the nation, AFMC was honored with the President’s Colour on December 1, 2023, in acknowledgement of its invaluable contributions to the armed forces and the nation.

With over 1.5 lakh patients benefiting annually from its exceptional outpatient and inpatient healthcare services, AFMC demonstrates a commitment to delivering quality healthcare to the community. The institute’s outreach activities in Kasurdi Village and the Sickle Cell Screening project in the tribal population of Nandurbar District underscore its dedication to preventive, promotive, diagnostic, and curative healthcare services.

AFMC continues to innovate in healthcare education, research, and delivery with initiatives like the Centre for Computational Medicine, Tele-Mental Health Assistance & Networking Across State (Tele-Manas) cell, and Department of Integrative Medicine. These endeavors reflect AFMC’s holistic approach to healthcare and its ongoing efforts to address the evolving healthcare needs of the community.

General Anil Chauhan, in his address, congratulated General Kotwal and the entire AFMC fraternity for their outstanding achievements and invaluable contributions to the armed forces, acknowledging their unwavering commitment to excellence in healthcare and medical education.
