Pune: The Hadapsar police busted a gang of thieves from Jharkhand who stole mobile phones from devotees during Ganeshotsav. Around 52 mobile phones worth Rs 16 lakh were seized from them.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shamkumar Sanjay Ram (25), Vishalkumar Ganga Mahato (21), Balduttkumar Motilal Mahato (25), Vicikumar Ganga Mahato alias Badshah Nonia (19) all a resident of Sahebganj in Jharkhand) Their accomplices Gopi Mahato, Rahul Mahato have escaped and are being searched for.
Police personnel Ajit Madane, Kundlik Keskar got the information that thieves from Jharkhand have come to steal mobile phones from devotees during Ganeshotsav and they stopped at Hadapsar area. The police laid a trap in Unnatinagar area and caught the thieves.
According to the police, “The gang confessed that they came to Pune to steal mobile phones from devotees during Ganeshotsav. 52 mobile sets were seized from them. The investigation revealed that the accused stole mobile phones from the Central Part of Mahatma Phule Market and Yerwada Vegetable Market.
The gang have committed crimes of mobile theft within the limits of Hadapsar, Yerwada, Vishrambaug, Faraskhana, Bundagarden and Swargate police stations.
Assistant Inspector Vijay Kumar Shinde, Sub Inspector Avinash Shinde, Sushil Lonkar, Sandeep Rathod, Sameer Pandule, Sachin Jadhav, Prashant Dudhal took this action under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Shelke, Police Inspector Vishwas Dagle and Sandeep Shivle.
