Pune Customs Commissionerate Takes Decisive Action Against Drug Trafficking: Disposes of 1033 Kilograms of Seized Drugs

Pune, 19th June 2023: In a resolute stand against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the Pune Customs Commissionerate has successfully disposed of 1,033 kilograms of seized drugs, marking a significant step in the ongoing campaign for a “Drug Free India.” This action coincides with the upcoming United Nations’ “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” on June 26th.

Under the watchful eye of the Drug Disposal Committee and Commissioner of Customs, Yashodhan Wanage, the disposal process took place at the premises of M/s Maharashtra Enviro Power Limited in MIDC, Ranjangaon, Pune. This milestone achievement reinforces the commitment of the Government of India to combat the menace of drugs in society.

The substantial seizures were the result of relentless efforts by the dedicated Narcotics Cell of the Pune Customs Commissionerate, which holds jurisdiction over multiple districts, including Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. Through nine separate cases, a total of 19 traffickers were apprehended and are currently in judicial custody.

The disposal of the seized drugs is a routine procedure undertaken by Drug Law Enforcement Agencies (DLEAs) in strict adherence to established protocols. This exercise serves as a strong message to those involved in drug trafficking that such illicit activities will not be tolerated.

Beyond the enforcement actions, the Pune Customs Commissionerate is actively engaged in raising awareness about drug abuse within society. Various outreach programs have been organized in schools and colleges across Pune, aimed at educating and sensitizing students to the dangers of drug addiction. These initiatives have received support from popular celebrities and sports personalities, lending further credibility to the cause.

In an effort to foster public participation in the fight against illicit drug trafficking, Pune Customs has encouraged individuals to share any pertinent information via the dedicated phone number 020-26119441 or the email address [email protected]. All information shared will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, allowing citizens to contribute to the collective efforts to eliminate the drug menace from society.

The resolute actions taken by the Pune Customs Commissionerate exemplify the commitment of law enforcement agencies to create a safe and drug-free environment. Through a combination of strict enforcement, awareness campaigns, and public participation, the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking gains momentum, ensuring a better and brighter future for the citizens of Pune.

As the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking approaches, let us stand united and reaffirm our determination to eradicate drugs from our society. Together, we can build a stronger, healthier, and drug-free India.
