Funds Scandal Hits Pune Rural Police: 56 Employees Accused of Misappropriation

Pune- The Pune Rural Police have taken legal action against 56 employees working at the police-run petrol pumps under the rural police’s welfare board, accusing them of misappropriating funds amounting to Rs 20 lakh from June 2021 to 2023. These revelations came to light during a recent audit, prompting the police to file a formal complaint.

The police have identified the fuel attendants who served at the petrol pumps during the past two years. Investigations revealed that the accused individuals failed to deposit the money collected from customers into the Pune Rural Police Welfare Board’s account. Furthermore, some of the accused diverted payments made through UPI mode to their personal accounts. A case related to this incident has been registered at Chaturshringi Police Station under the relevant sections of the law.

It’s worth noting that the Pune Rural Police inaugurated two petrol pumps on Baner Road and Pashan Road, operated by the Welfare Board of the rural police. The revenue generated from these fuel pumps was intended to support various initiatives undertaken by the police force. The inauguration of these fuel pumps was presided over by the then Home Minister, Dilip Walse Patil, at a city event.

According to officials, discrepancies amounting to a total of Rs 17,25,324 were discovered in the accounts of the Baner Road Petrol Pump, while a difference of Rs 2,93,736 was detected in the accounts of the Pashan Road Petrol Pump.
