Pune News: Shivajinagar police have taken action against two individuals accused of recording videos of female students at the College of Engineering Pune (COEP) Technological University, sparking concerns over privacy violations and the misuse of personal content.

The incident, which reportedly occurred between January 24, 2023, and May 8, 2024, came to light when a complaint was lodged by the college administration on Wednesday.

According to the police, the female student involved recorded videos of her roommates and shared them with a male friend outside the campus. These videos were allegedly disseminated via social media platforms, raising alarm bells about privacy breaches and ethical misconduct.

The accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 354(c) for voyeurism, along with Sections 34 and 67 of the IT Act, highlighting the severity of the offense and the legal ramifications involved.

In response to the incident, the college administration swiftly took action, initiating an internal investigation and lodging a formal complaint with the police. DN Sonawane, registrar of the college, affirmed the institution’s commitment to providing a safe and conducive environment for its students, stating, “The university has shunted out the accused student from the hostel and temporarily suspended her from the university pending an internal inquiry.”

Moreover, Sandeep Gill, DCP (zone I), assured that the authorities are actively investigating the role of the male accused in the case. While no arrests have been made thus far, efforts are underway to ascertain his involvement and address the matter comprehensively.
