Caretaker Cheats Senior Citizen, Withdraws ₹5.21 Lakh from Bank Account

In a distressing incident, a woman entrusted with the responsibility of caring for a senior citizen has been accused of fraudulently withdrawing ₹5.21 lakh from the victim’s bank account. The incident was reported to the Vishrantwadi police station by a 56-year-old woman, leading to the registration of an FIR against a 33-year-old woman residing in Jaikwadi. The fraudulent activities took place between April 26 and June 9.

According to the police, the complainant had hired the accused woman to look after her mother and perform household tasks while she was preparing to travel to Canada. However, during this period, the caretaker took advantage of the situation and committed theft. Not only did she steal a valuable seven-tola gold chain belonging to the complainant’s mother, but she also managed to acquire the PIN of the victim’s IDBI Bank ATM card.

Using the unlawfully obtained PIN, the accused proceeded to withdraw ₹5.21 lakh from the victim’s bank account, causing significant financial loss and distress to the complainant and her family.

The incident serves as a reminder to exercise caution when employing individuals for caregiving roles and highlights the importance of conducting thorough background checks and maintaining constant vigilance. It is crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals, particularly senior citizens who may be more susceptible to exploitation.

Law enforcement authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter and are dedicated to bringing the perpetrator to justice. Instances of such fraudulent activities remind us of the need for stringent security measures, effective monitoring systems, and public awareness to prevent and combat such crimes.

Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activities or incidents of fraud to the police promptly. By working together, we can create a safer community that protects the rights and interests of all its members.
