Pune, August 14, 2023: As a mark of recognition for their exceptional dedication and service, two fire brigade officials from Pune have been named among the 8 fire brigade personnel who will be honored with the prestigious ‘President’s Fire Service Medal’ on the occasion of Independence Day 2023. The recipients of this esteemed honor are Fire Engine Driver Karim Khan Fhajal Khan Pathan and Fire Ambulance Attendant Narsinha Basappa Patel.
With a remarkable service record spanning over 36 years within the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Fire Brigade Team, Karim Khan has consistently exhibited his commitment to public safety. His journey commenced as an ambulance attendant, and his steadfast dedication propelled him to the role of Fire Engine Driver. Karim Khan’s contributions have been pivotal in saving numerous lives during various fire incidents across the city, including incidents at Bhori Ali, Ravivar Peth in 2016, Crossword Book Shop fire at Pune Station in 2016, and the Hoarding Collapse Incident at Mangalwar Peth in 2018. The city’s fire brigade team takes immense pride in his accomplishments and is elated to witness his name grace the list of recipients for this prestigious award.
Narsinha Basappa Patel, who joined the fire service in 1998, has also demonstrated exceptional heroism by saving numerous lives through his prompt actions. During various critical incidents, he effectively transported injured individuals to hospitals, showcasing his unwavering commitment to public welfare. His notable contributions include his significant role during the fire incident at the Petrol Pump in Mangalwar Peth in 2003, as well as his heroic efforts in rescuing individuals trapped under debris following a building collapse in Dhankawadi in 2012.
