Pune, 3rd August 2023: A trekking adventure turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when a group of trekkers lost their way and one of them lost his life while attempting to return from Harishchandra Fort. The deceased, identified as Anil alias Balu Gite (32), hailing from Pune’s Lohegaon area, is suspected to have succumbed to adverse weather conditions.
According to the available reports, Balu and his friends set out for a trek at Harishchandra Gad on Tuesday afternoon. However, as they advanced into the forest, they found themselves lost amidst dense fog and harsh weather conditions. To make matters worse, the area had poor network connectivity, making it impossible for them to seek outside help.
As night fell, the trekkers found themselves stranded and took a courageous decision to spend the night inside the forest, hoping that the weather would improve the next morning. Unfortunately, the harsh weather took a toll on Balu’s health, and by the time they commenced their return trek in the morning, he had tragically lost his life.
Undeterred by the tragedy, the remaining trekkers pressed on, carrying their friend’s body while desperately searching for a way back. Fortune smiled upon them when they encountered another trekking group led by a local guide. This group promptly assisted them and contacted the villagers for further help and support.
Rescue teams, including local villagers, swiftly mobilized to the spot to aid the stranded trekkers. With their timely intervention, the group was safely rescued, but the loss of Balu’s life cast a somber cloud over what was meant to be an exhilarating experience.
