Transformer Failures Plague Kalewadi Phata, Leaving Residents in the Dark

Recurring Electrical Woes in Kalewadi Phata

Residents of Gajanan Nagar in Kalewadi Phata are facing a persistent problem with recurring electrical transformer failures that lead to power outages every two to three months. This issue has struck the area three times in the past six months, causing extended power outages, affecting water supply, and disrupting daily life.

The Ongoing Struggle

These prolonged power outages have far-reaching consequences, particularly for students who rely on online classes and professionals working remotely. The lack of electricity also impacts borewell-dependent water supply, raising concerns about health and sanitation.

Local authorities have described these transformer failures as “occasional,” suggesting that recent roadwork may have contributed to the problem. However, residents are seeking a more permanent solution to this recurrent issue.

Impacting Education and Work

The extended daily outages, often lasting more than ten hours, make it challenging for students to continue their education through online classes, complete assignments, and take exams. Professionals working from home also face difficulties in maintaining productivity during these power outages.

Water Woes

Many households in the area rely on borewells for their water supply, making them particularly vulnerable to outages. The lack of water not only disrupts daily routines but also poses serious health and sanitation risks.

Additionally, the transformer unit’s location on a narrow road leading to a busy main road frequently causes traffic disruptions. Repair operations can obstruct the road with cranes and machinery, inconveniencing commuters.

Officials’ Response

Manoj Purohit, an engineer from MSEDCL, acknowledged the issue, stating, “This occurs once in a while. Damages may have occurred due to recent road work, but we have made the necessary repairs.” Mahesh Deshmukh, additional executive engineer of MSEDCL, also emphasized that it’s not a persistent problem and that they will investigate further.

With the most recent transformer repair completed just 10 days ago, residents of Gajanan Nagar are hopeful that a lasting solution to their recurring electricity and water problems is on the horizon.
