Tragic Bus Accident Claims Lives of Pune Professor and Medical Student on Samruddhi Expressway

Pune, July 1st, 2023: In a devastating accident that occurred on the Samruddhi Expressway in the early hours of Saturday, three members of a family from Ambegaon taluka in Pune were among the 25 individuals who lost their lives. Professor Kailas Gangawane (48), his wife Kanchan Gangawane (38), and their daughter Sai Gangawane (21) were on their way back from Nagpur when the bus they were traveling in caught fire.

Professor Gangawane had traveled to Nagpur to drop off his son, who had recently been admitted to a law college in the city. Hailing from the village of Nirgudsar in Ambegaon, Professor Gangawane was a respected academic. Tragically, his daughter Sai Gangawane, who also perished in the accident, was a promising medical student.

News of the family’s untimely demise left their relatives and the villagers in a state of shock. It was reported that the family remained unaware of the accident until late in the morning, further adding to the grief and disbelief felt by their loved ones.

The accident on the Samruddhi Expressway has claimed the lives of 25 individuals, while eight others sustained injuries, with three of them in critical condition. The tourist bus caught fire after colliding with a divider following a tire burst earlier today.

The severity of the accident resulted in immediate fatalities, making it challenging to identify the victims. DNA testing will be required to establish the identities of the deceased. The government is currently working to gather information about the bus passengers and reach out to their relatives. In response to the tragedy, the Chief Minister has announced a financial aid of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives, while the Prime Minister has pledged Rs 2 lakh in assistance.

The details surrounding the accident in Buldhana are equally harrowing. A passenger bus veered off the road near Pimpalkhuta village, Sindkhedaraja, in Buldhana district. Out of the 33 passengers onboard, 25 lost their lives on the spot, while eight managed to escape safely. The bus collided with a road divider on the Samruddhi Highway, leading to a fire that quickly engulfed the vehicle upon contact with diesel fuel.

The authorities are diligently working to investigate the cause of both accidents and provide support to the affected families.
