Tragedy Strikes: 38-Year-Old Woman Fatally Struck by PMPML Bus, Driver Held Responsible

Pune, August 23, 2023: A heart-wrenching incident occurred on Tuesday as a 38-year-old woman lost her life after being hit by a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus on Pune-Satara Road. The driver of the PMPML bus has been booked in connection with the case.

According to the filed complaint, the victim, identified as Swapnali Sagar Waghule, a resident of Bibvewadi area, was crossing the Pune-Satara Road near Parvati on her bike during the afternoon. Tragedy struck when a speeding PMPML bus, which was reportedly driving in the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane, hit her. The complainant further alleged that the bus driver had disregarded a traffic signal before the collision occurred.

The impact of the collision left Swapnali with severe injuries, and despite immediate medical attention, she was declared dead by the attending doctors. In response to the tragic incident, a case has been registered at the Parvati Police Station against the PMPML driver. The charges invoked include sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 304(a) (causing death by negligence), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

The grieving husband of the deceased, Sagar Waghule, has lodged a formal complaint regarding the incident. An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the authorities to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the circumstances that led to this tragic accident.
