Traffic Congestion Alleviation: MLA Siddharth Shirole’s Action Plan for University Chowk

In a proactive move to address the persistent issue of traffic congestion at University Chowk, MLA Siddharth Shirole orchestrated a pivotal meeting on September 11th. The meeting brought together key department officials from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Pune City Traffic Police, Pune Municipal Corporation’s Road Department, and Tata Company. The primary goal was to devise effective solutions to tackle the area’s traffic challenges, particularly in anticipation of the forthcoming metro flyover construction project.

A significant decision emerged from the meeting—a plan to establish an alternative route for motorists before initiating the metro flyover construction at University Chowk. This strategic decision aims to alleviate potential traffic disruptions during the construction phase. Moreover, the meeting underscored the significance of tailoring traffic planning to accommodate the ever-changing crowd dynamics in the vicinity.

Notable attendees at the discussion included PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Rahul Mahiwal, DCP (Traffic Police) Vijayakumar Magar, Executive Engineer of Pune Municipal Road Department Dinkar Gojare, and Project Director of Tata Company, Akshay Sharma.

To expedite the construction process, it was agreed that the traffic police would grant approval for the construction of a bridge ramp on the Aundh side once the ongoing pillar work on the Baner side of the intersection is completed. This pivotal step is slated to commence post-October 15th. Additionally, municipal authorities pledged to accelerate road-widening endeavors in the area.

MLA Siddharth Shirole also unveiled plans to create a dedicated lane for two-wheelers, facilitating smoother travel from the university premises to Range Hills. This comprehensive traffic management approach seeks to provide relief to commuters and enhance traffic flow in the University Chowk vicinity.
