Pune’s Speed Skating Prodigy Swarupa Kad Deshmukh Dominates Southeast Asian Games with Triple Gold Triumph

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, Swarupa Nachiket Kad Deshmukh achieved an extraordinary feat at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games Short Track Ice Speed Skating event in Manila, Philippines, on October 21 and 22. She clinched an astounding three gold medals in the 500m, 777m, and 1000m distances, adding to her laurels a well-deserved silver medal in the 2000m relay.

The significance of her achievement is underscored by the fierce competition from eight participating countries in the event. Representing the Indian team, Swarupa’s journey to victory is a testament to her unwavering dedication, unrelenting perseverance, and sheer hard work. Her impressive track record includes three gold medals and one bronze at the national level, along with two gold medals in the Khelo India competition. In total, she has amassed an astonishing collection of 12 medals from international competitions.

Swarupa’s exceptional journey to success was guided by the invaluable mentorship of Subodh Patil, a recipient of the prestigious Shiv Chhatrapati Award.
