Skoda Auto Volkswagen India’s Pune Plant Achieves Platinum Green Building Certification

Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has made history by becoming the first automaker in the Indian Automotive Industry to receive the prestigious Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Platinum certification for its Parts Expedition Center in Chakan, Pune. This accolade showcases the organization’s unwavering commitment to sustainable and environmentally conscious manufacturing practices.

The Parts Expedition Center has been strategically designed with sustainability at its core, emphasizing various eco-friendly initiatives to reduce carbon footprint. This facility, which supports the export of CKD parts for assembly in Vietnam, boasts optimal orientation for solar power generation, energy-efficient lighting and equipment, water conservation measures, effective waste management practices, and an overall promotion of a green mindset among its employees.

To attain the IGBC Platinum certification, organizations are required to allocate at least 15% of their total area to greenery. SAVWIPL not only met this criterion but also implemented space-saving vertical gardens within the operational area, ensuring both ecological responsibility and operational efficiency. The center further contributes to environmental conservation by incorporating electric vehicles and charging stations for internal logistics and operations.

Mr. Piyush Arora, Managing Director & CEO of Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, expressed his delight, stating, “We are delighted to receive the prestigious IGBC Platinum certificate for our Pune facility. Sustainability is at the core of our operations, and this certification stands as a testament to our commitment towards environmental conservation.”

This recognition aligns with SAVWIPL’s broader ‘goTOzero’ goal, which focuses on developing ecological and energy-efficient infrastructure to minimize the company’s environmental impact. The Platinum rating from the IGBC underscores the company’s rigorous approach to sustainability throughout the project lifecycle.
