Pune: In Pune’s Kondhwa area, a minor girl who was married while still underage has been discovered pregnant after she was admitted to a local hospital for a medical check-up. The resident doctor at the hospital, Dr. Unmesh Ramesh Ambhore, subsequently filed a police complaint against the girl’s husband, identified as Aftab Akrabuddin Sheikh, at the Kondhwa police station.
According to the police report, Sheikh and the girl entered into marriage in January this year, in spite of being fully aware that the girl was a minor at the time. After their marriage, Sheikh engaged in physical relations with the girl, which ultimately resulted in her pregnancy. It was only when the victim sought medical attention at Kamala Nehru Hospital for an examination that her true age was discovered.
Following this revelation, Dr. Unmesh Ramesh Ambhore took it upon himself to report the matter to the authorities. As a consequence, the Kondhwa police have registered a case against the accused husband under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including IPC 376/2/N, as well as under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, sections 4, 6, 8, and 12. The case is currently under investigation, with Assistant Police Inspector Kudale investigating it.
