Roof top restaurants begin operations even after action by PMC

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had taken action against 97 illegal roof top restaurants but after some days, these restaurants are being opened again. Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has issued a warning that the police are going to register FIRs against these illegal restaurants.

Meanwhile, the civic chief held a meeting of officials from the building department. He directed all junior engineers of the department to take action against roof top restaurants and illegal structures built in the side and front margin and submit a report in 15 days.

Accordingly, the department has started taking action.
The PMC is acting against roof top restaurants but since they are being given permission by the district administration, the civic body is going to send a letter to the district collector. The letter will contain the names of illegal bars and restaurants and a recommendation will be made to cancel their liquor licence.

A recommendation will also be made that a NOC should be taken from the PMC before issuing licences to bars and restaurants.

Many illegal restaurants are operating on the top of the buildings and terraces of some malls. Since the concept of roof top restaurants does not exist, the PMC has not given permission to any restaurant. Civic officials said that some restaurants have started operations after the action and owners of some restaurants have approached the courts.
