Pune, 19th August 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is making significant strides towards enhancing the city’s water infrastructure through its 24×7 Water Supply Project, projected to conclude by December this year. This ambitious initiative is poised to amplify the water storage capacity within municipal areas by a substantial 120 million litres. Currently standing at 350 million litres, the water storage capacity is anticipated to escalate to 470 million litres upon the successful completion of this undertaking.
Under the aegis of the project, the Pune Municipal Corporation is erecting 82 overhead tanks, each with a capacity to store 6 million litres of water. The comprehensive planning and meticulous execution of this endeavor are evident in the progress achieved so far, with over 80% of the work already accomplished. Notably, any delays encountered during the construction process due to land acquisition challenges and ongoing metro work have been successfully addressed, allowing for the steady advancement of the project.
The project’s overarching goal is to ensure equitable water distribution throughout the Pune Municipal Corporation’s jurisdiction, fostering improved accessibility to water resources for its residents. The allocation of approximately Rs 4,500 crore for the project underscores the municipal corporation’s commitment to ensuring an enhanced water supply infrastructure for its constituents.
Once realized, the 24×7 Water Supply Project will not only alleviate potential water shortages but also provide a comprehensive framework for a more efficient and sustainable water management system.
