In a bid to mitigate traffic congestion caused by the surge in vehicles and ongoing large-scale projects in Pune, the Pune Traffic Police have implemented a temporary prohibition on the movement of heavy vehicles along various roads of Pune-Nagar Road. The restriction will be enforced from 20th February to 5th March 2024.
According to the Pune Traffic Police, the growing number of vehicles in the city, coupled with significant infrastructure projects like metro construction and flyovers, has led to increased road occupancy by heavy vehicles. This has resulted in traffic disruptions, posing risks and inconveniences for citizens.
To address these issues and enhance public safety, experimental orders have been issued to restrict the movement and parking of all types of heavy, bulky, and slow-speed vehicles, such as dumpers, RMC mixers, JCBs, and road rollers, at specific times and locations.
Here are the details of the restricted areas and timings:
- Pune-Nagar Road: Wagheshwar Chowk, Wagholi to Kharadi Bypass (7 am to 10 am, 5 pm to 9 pm)
- Kesnand Road: Wagholi to Shivaji Chowk, Kesnand Gaon (7 am to 10 am, 5 pm to 9 pm)
- Lohegaon-Wagholi Road: Lohegaon Chowk, Wagholi to Lohegaon to Vishrantwadi via Dhanori (7 am to 10 am, 5 pm to 9 pm)
- Pune-Nagar Road: Wagheshwar Chowk, Wagholi to Lonikand (7 am to 10 am, 5 pm to 9 pm)
- Lohegaon Road: Lohegaon to Petrolsatha Chowk to Vishrantwadi (8 am to 11 pm)
However, essential service vehicles such as fire brigade, police vehicles, ambulances, PMPML & private buses are exempt from these restrictions.
Citizens with suggestions or objections regarding these measures can submit them to the office of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pune Traffic Police, Yerawada Post Office, Bangla no. 6, Jail Road, Pune 41006 between 20th February 2024, and 5th March 2024. Final orders will be issued after considering the feedback from the public.
