Clear the Way for Ganesh Immersion: PMC’s 24-Hour Ultimatum to Vehicle Owners on Key Routes

Pune Municipal Corporation

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a stern action against vehicle owners who have left their vehicles unattended on key city thoroughfares traditionally utilized for Ganesh immersion processions. This decision is aimed at ensuring smooth passage for the upcoming procession, as any obstructions on this significant day could lead to traffic congestion.

Vehicle owners have been served official notices, providing them with a 24-hour window to promptly relocate their vehicles from the designated immersion procession route. The PMC has issued a stark warning that any unclaimed vehicles remaining in violation of this directive will face seizure and impoundment.

The imperative action was taken following a recent comprehensive evaluation by civic authorities of the intended immersion procession route on the final day of the Ganesh festival. During this assessment, officials identified numerous abandoned vehicles that had occupied these spaces for extended periods. Subsequently, the PMC swiftly acted by affixing notices to these vehicles, granting their owners 24 hours to effect their removal.

The identified routes, including Kumthekar Road, Tilak Road, Laxmi Road, and adjacent thoroughfares, have historically served as the focal points for Ganesh mandals’ immersion processions on the festival’s concluding day. This event typically draws vast congregations of devotees who eagerly witness the spectacle. Consequently, these roads witness heavy traffic congestion annually during the immersion day. To maintain law and order and ensure the safety of all, police officials are deployed across these areas for a continuous 24-hour vigil until the immersion culminates.

The PMC’s Anti-Encroachment Department routinely conducts operations to remove abandoned vehicles from city roads, following the established protocol of issuing prior notices to vehicle owners as a prelude to any enforcement action.
