Pune Traders Beware: Legal Action Looms for Sale of Non-Certified Weighing Scales

Legal Meteorology Department in Pune Issues Warning Against Use and Sale of Non-Certified Weighing Scales

Pune, August 22, 2023: The Legal Metrology Department in Pune has issued a stern warning against the use and sale of non-certified weighing scales. Authorized sellers holding valid permits for selling weighing scales are urged to ensure that they exclusively sell approved weights and measurement tools.

Regrettably, the Legal Meteorology Department has come across instances where traders are distributing imported weighing scales, particularly Chinese brands, and non-certified weighing scales procured from other states. These unauthorized scales are being repackaged with counterfeit labels of local brands. Given that these scales lack certification, their usage and sale are in violation of the law, stated officials.

The usage or sale of non-certified electronic weighing scales will be met with legal consequences as per the provisions outlined in the Legal Metrology Act of 2009 and its associated regulations. D.G. Mahajan, Deputy Controller of the Legal Metrology Department, emphasized the seriousness of non-compliance with these regulations and underscored the department’s commitment to ensuring fair and accurate trade practices.

The Legal Metrology Department’s intervention aims to safeguard consumers and businesses from the potential pitfalls associated with inaccurate measurements and unfair trade practices. Certified weighing scales ensure that both buyers and sellers operate on a level playing field, promoting transparency and trust in commercial transactions.

This proactive stance by the Legal Metrology Department serves as a reminder to all stakeholders within the trade ecosystem to adhere to the regulations, uphold ethical business practices, and contribute to a fair and equitable marketplace.
