Pune: RTO to cancel Trade Certificate of 11 vehicle dealers

Pune: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has decided to cancel the Trade Certificate of 11 dealers for selling vehicles without the proper registration. The agency had issued a show-cause notice to them seeking their reply why their Trade Certificate should not be cancelled.

Some of them replied to the notice. Five dealers are from Pune while the remaining are from other cities. The RTO Pune has directed its offices in other cities to act against dealers within their jurisdictions. The RTO Pune will act against dealers in the city.

The RTO started checking vehicles after the hit-and-run case in Kalyani Nagar. A flying squad of the RTO found 11 two-wheelers being used without registration. The dealers concerned were issued the notices and were told to reply within seven days. The RTO Pune will act against the five dealers under the Motor Vehicles Act. It is still not decided for how long the action will be applicable.

Likely action against errant dealers

The RTO can cancel the Trade Certificate for 7, 15 or 21 days under the Motor Vehicles Act. The dealer cannot sell a single vehicle during the period their Trade Certificate is cancelled. The dealer’s login ID given in the RTO is blocked. This will halt vehicle sales. This is the first such action in Pune.
