Pune Tragedy: Two Drown, One Missing After Car Plunges into Nira Deoghar Dam Backwater

Bhor, 29th July 2023: A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday when a car carrying four friends veered off the road and plunged into the Nira Deoghar Dam backwater near Mauje Varvand village in Bhor. The accident occurred around 8:30 am, leaving two individuals dead, one missing, and one survivor who reported the incident to the local police.

According to the survivor’s account, the group of friends had embarked on a picnic trip to the outskirts of Pune to enjoy the monsoon season. They had left the city at around 5 am and were en route to Mahad-Bhor road when tragedy struck. The driver lost control of the car as they approached Mauje Varvand village, causing the vehicle to plunge into the Nira Deoghar Dam.

Among the passengers, two individuals, identified as Akshay Ramesh Dhade (27) and Harshpreet Bamba (30), tragically lost their lives in the incident. Local agencies and villagers conducted a search operation and managed to recover their lifeless bodies. However, one person, identified as Swapnil Parshuram Shinde (28), remains missing.

The survivor of the accident, Sanket Viresh Joshi (28), sustained injuries to his head but managed to survive the ordeal. According to police reports, all the individuals involved in the incident were IT engineers residing in various parts of Pune city.
