Pune RTO Explores Shared Auto Rickshaw Service to Enhance Metro Connectivity

Pune, 4th August 2023 – The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune has put forth a progressive proposal to introduce a share auto rickshaw service that would effectively connect metro stations with various parts of the city. In a significant step towards enhancing public transportation, RTO officials recently convened a crucial meeting with representatives of the Auto Rickshaw unions to discuss the feasibility and potential benefits of this initiative.

According to reliable sources, several members of the city’s auto rickshaw unions have shown a positive inclination towards collaborating with the RTO in this pioneering endeavor. However, it’s worth noting that some members have raised concerns or opposition. In a bid to gauge the viability and plan effectively, RTO authorities have urged all auto union members to actively participate in an upcoming survey. This survey is slated to assess and map potential routes around the metro stations, a pivotal step in the endeavor to launch the proposed service.

The prime objective behind this visionary proposal is to provide enhanced connectivity for commuters, facilitating seamless travel between metro stations and other locations within the city. This initiative aligns with the broader mission of streamlining urban transportation and making it more efficient and accessible.

Notably, this isn’t the only move towards augmenting metro-centric transportation solutions. The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has already introduced a feeder bus service that aims to shuttle passengers between metro stations and surrounding areas, enhancing the overall commuter experience.

RTO officials have conveyed that a comprehensive proposal will be drafted after thorough consultations with key stakeholders, including traffic police and Maha Metro. The potential success of this initiative largely hinges on the participation of auto rickshaw unions. Once the blueprint is finalized, it will be presented before the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) for ultimate approval.
