Pune Ring Road Expansion: MSRDC Gears Up for Western Stretch Construction in 2024

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is set to embark on a significant infrastructure development project, with the initiation of the bidding process for the construction of the western side of the Pune Ring Road. This ambitious endeavor, covering a stretch of 65 kilometers from Kalawde in Bhor to Urse in Maval taluka, is slated to commence in January 2024, marking a milestone in the region’s transportation landscape.

The Pune Ring Road project, a brainchild of the MSRDC, aims to strategically divert city and highway traffic, fostering a substantial reduction in vehicular pollution. With sixty percent of land acquisition work already completed across 14 villages, the project is poised to transform the commuting experience for Pune’s residents.

The construction plan unfolds in five phases, featuring the implementation of eight tunnels, three small bridges, and two overbridges. Notably, a special bridge spanning the backwaters of Khadakwasla waters, stretching one kilometer in length, is set to be a prominent feature of this infrastructure marvel.

Rajesh Deshmukh, district collector, affirmed, “The MSRDC has issued the orders for tender, and the work for the western side will commence from the first week of January 2024.” Deshmukh further emphasized the district administration’s commitment to closely monitoring the development, coupled with concerted efforts to secure the acquisition of 695 hectares of land. A budget request of ₹5,000 crores has been forwarded to the government to facilitate the project’s seamless execution.

The Pune Ring Road project has been strategically divided into east and western zones. The eastern zone encompasses Maval and Kelawade, while the western zone spans Bhor, Haveli, and Mulshi talukas. Simultaneously, land acquisition efforts extend to 37 villages along Sinhagad Road, involving the procurement of 395 hectares of land.

As the administration completes land measurements in 36 villages, preparations are underway for compensation disbursement. The state government, recognizing the significance of this endeavor, has allocated ₹1,500 crores for land acquisition along Sinhagad Road, underscoring its commitment to expediting the project’s progress.

The forthcoming Pune Ring Road, extending over 170 kilometers, promises to be an eight-lane express highway, designed to accommodate vehicles at speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour, ushering in a new era of efficient and seamless transportation for the residents of Pune.
