As winter sets in, Pune residents can expect a noticeable plunge in both day and night temperatures, with the city likely to experience a 2-degree Celsius fall from November 20 onward, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune.
The absence of a robust weather system over the state will lead to clearer skies, intensifying the ongoing temperature decline. Morning hazes, already common in various parts of the city, are expected to persist, contributing to the overall wintry ambiance.
Anupam Kashyapi, head of the Weather and Forecasting Division at IMD Pune, shed light on the current weather pattern, stating, “Currently, haze is slowly engulfing parts of the city. With the presence of South Easterly winds, Relative Humidity is at a moderate level, and the night temperature is expected to rise in the next 24 hours. However, a shift in wind patterns is anticipated, with northerly winds making their presence felt in the state. Consequently, the minimum temperature is likely to fall for a few days starting from November 20 onward.”
Pune is projected to witness a temperature dip of 2 degrees Celsius during this period, with some areas in northern Maharashtra likely to experience temperatures around 12 degrees Celsius, as indicated by Kashyapi.
On a recent Saturday, Shivajinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 14.9 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 31.6 degrees Celsius. While the maximum temperature exceeded normal levels by 1.6 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature remained at a normal level. Interestingly, the minimum temperature in Pune was lower than that in Mahabaleshwar by 1 degree Celsius.
In various parts of the city, the maximum temperature ranged between 29 to 31.7 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature varied from 14.9 degrees Celsius to 19.8 degrees Celsius. Pashan registered the lowest daytime temperature at 29 degrees Celsius, whereas Shivajinagar recorded the lowest nighttime temperature at 14.9 degrees Celsius.
