Pune: Pune Police Commissioner Took 78th Action Under MPDA Act; Accused Faced One Year Jail Sentence at Nagpur Central Jail

Pune: In further continuation of the streak of police action against non-complying criminals, Pune Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar has taken another action under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act against an inveterate criminal, Ajmer Javed Sheikh. Notably, this is the 78th action of the Pune police commissioner under the MPDA Act since taking the charge.

A 22-year-old Shiakh is an on-record repeated offender from the Shivajinagar area and has multiple cases of criminal activities registered against him at Khadaki police station. Shaikh and his accomplices have committed serious crimes like attempted murder, grievous hurt, forced theft, extortion, and possession of illegal weapons such as machetes, rods, and knives within police station limits. In the last five years, four serious crimes have been registered against him.

Taking note of his increasing criminal activities, a proposal to take action against Ajmer Sheikh under the MPDA Act was submitted to Pune City Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar. After detailed scrutiny and verification of the proposal and documents received, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the detention of Ajmer Shaikh in Nagpur Central Jail under the MPDA Act for one year.

Accordingly, police apprehended Shaikh and sentenced him to the Nagpur Central Jail yesterday. This action was taken by a team of Khadki Police Station Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Sahane, Crime Branch, PCB Senior Police Inspector Chandrakant Bedre, police officers, and enforcers.
