Pune: Nira-Deoghar dam filled to 100 per cent of its capacity

PUNE: The Nira-Deoghar dam located in Bhor taluka is filled to 100 per cent of its capacity and water is being released at 750 cusecs from the power generation centre. On August 2, the dam was filled up to 90 per cent of its capacity due to good rainfall in the taluka.

The power generation centre was started at that time. Water was released at 750 cusecs and 6 mw power was generated. However, due to the reduction in the rainfall, there was no sufficient increase in the water level in the dam.

On August 8, the release of water was reduced by 400 cusecs to 350. The water level in the dam increased in the last 10 days and on Saturday (19), the dam was filled to 100 per cent of its capacity and the water storage is 11.91 TMC.

On Saturday midnight, water release was started at 750 cusecs. Last year, on August 13, Nira-Deoghar was filled to 100 per cent of its capacity. Nira Irrigation Department Grade 1 Assistant Engineer Yogesh Bhandalkar said that if the rainfall increases in the catchment area of Nira Deoghar dam, the sluice gates of the dam will be opened.

There is storage of 88.06 per cent storage in British era Bhatghar dam in the taluka. Last year, the dam was filled to 100 per cent of its capacity and the self operating doors of the dam had opened.
