Pune Municipal Corporation to Crack Down on Illegal Hawker License Transactions

In response to a surge in reports regarding hawkers engaging in the unauthorized sale or rental of their licenses to third parties, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is taking decisive action to blacklist vendors involved in such illicit transactions.

Madhav Jagtap, the head of PMC’s anti-encroachment department, revealed that a recent survey conducted by the municipal corporation identified instances where hawkers were illegally transferring their licenses to other individuals instead of utilizing them for their intended purpose.

Jagtap stated, “Our recent survey found some hawkers selling their license to a third person instead of running their own business on the streets. Any such financial transaction is illegal, and PMC is committed to suspending the hawker’s license in such cases.”

The practice of selling or renting out hawker licenses, originally intended for individuals to operate stalls at prime locations, not only violates municipal regulations but also creates a hindrance to genuine entrepreneurs seeking to establish their businesses in the designated areas.

To combat this issue, the PMC is set to implement a stringent blacklisting mechanism, targeting vendors found guilty of engaging in illegal transactions involving their licenses. This proactive step aims to maintain the integrity of the hawking system and ensure that licenses are used by the rightful holders.

The PMC is urging citizens to report any instances of illegal license transactions or other related activities to their helpline, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in upholding the rules and regulations governing street vending.
