Pune, 28th June 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has embarked on a significant revamp of its Industrial Training College (ITI) to provide advanced technologies, courses, and essential facilities similar to those offered in Odisha. The objective of this initiative is to equip the industrial sector with skilled and trained manpower, leading the Municipal Corporation to prioritize the development of the ITI school.

Situated in Shukrawar Peth, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Industrial Training Institute (ITI) has been under the purview of the Municipal Corporation, but it had not received significant attention from the administration until now. During a thorough inspection, Additional Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakne observed the deteriorating condition of the ITI and promptly approved funds for its repairs.

To elevate the standards of the ITI, the idea of aligning it with the ITIs in Odisha was introduced. In order to explore this further, Pramod Mule, the in-charge principal of the school, assigned Nilesh Pawar, the in-charge supervisor, and Suresh Viddate, the head of the school, to visit ITIs in Odisha and gather insights.

Pramod Mule, the in-charge principal of the ITI, shared his thoughts, stating, “Odisha boasts a cutting-edge ITI where students receive education integrated with modern technology. The facilities provided include necessary equipment, practical demonstrations, a government mobile app, specialized courses for women, and baking courses. The curriculum is designed to produce skilled manpower, opening up excellent job opportunities. Our aim is to introduce similar changes in the Municipal ITI.”

Vikas Dhakne, the Additional Commissioner, emphasized the significance of Odisha’s ITIs, highlighting that approximately 40 percent of the industrial workforce in Pimpri Chinchwad hails from Odisha. In light of this, he personally inspected ITI projects in Odisha and recommended that teachers from Pune visit Odisha to study and implement a similar model in the Municipal Corporation’s ITI. Currently, 30 percent of the infrastructure work has been completed, and efforts are underway to expedite the remaining construction.

Current Enrollment Status at the Municipal ITI:

  • First year: 100 students
  • Second year: 200 students

The Pune Municipal Corporation’s dedication to transforming the ITI reflects its commitment to nurturing skilled professionals who can contribute effectively to the industrial sector. By emulating successful models and incorporating modern technologies, the revamped ITI will play a vital role in bridging the skill gap and empowering students with the necessary expertise to thrive in the ever-evolving job market.
