Pune Municipal Corporation Invests Rs 1,008 Crores in Major Road Projects to Ease Traffic Woes

In a significant move aimed at mitigating the persistent traffic congestion in the Mohamadwadi area, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a tender process for the construction of three pivotal roads. This endeavor is part of a comprehensive urban development strategy that could witness the municipal corporation channeling Rs 1,008 crores into infrastructural upgrades over the next two decades. As per a feasibility report, these projects hold the potential to yield Rs 3,000 crores through construction charges and property tax revenues.

Public-Private Partnership Model for Road Development In light of the complex challenges associated with land acquisition, the municipal administration has opted for a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The ambitious roadmap encompasses the transformation of 18 roads and the construction of two bridges, spanning various localities, including Kharadi, Bund Garden, Kalyani Nagar, Mundhwa, Baner, Sus, Mhalunge, Bibvewadi, Gangadham, Kondhwa, and Mohamadwadi. An estimated sum of Rs 717 crores has been earmarked for these ventures, some of which have already been set in motion.

Insights into Mohamadwadi’s Road Projects The Mohamadwadi segment of this expansive project comprises three crucial roads with a combined estimated cost of Rs 117.76 crores. The contractor is poised to recover this investment through diverse means, including property tax credits and construction development charges.
