Pune-Mumbai Train Service Disrupted as Overhead Wires Snap

Passengers commuting between Pune and Mumbai encountered significant disruptions on Monday evening as overhead wires along the railway route snapped between Malavali and Kamshet stations, leading to the suspension of train services.

The incident, which occurred around 4:20 pm, prompted authorities to halt rail traffic on the Pune-Mumbai line as a precautionary measure to address the issue and initiate repair work.

Rampal Barpagga, spokesperson for the Pune railway division, stated that the overhead wires were observed to be broken between Kamshet and Malavali, prompting an immediate suspension of train operations in the affected stretch. A technical block was enforced to facilitate repair works and ascertain the cause of the wire breakage.

In the wake of the disruption, three local trains and six mail express trains plying between Pune and Mumbai experienced delays, inconveniencing passengers during their journeys.

Efforts to restore normalcy were swiftly initiated, with railway officials promptly mobilizing resources to address the issue and expedite repair works. The repair operation, which involved rectifying the damaged overhead wires, necessitated a two-hour suspension of train services between Lonavla and Talegaon.

Investigations into the root cause of the wire breakage are currently underway, as railway authorities strive to ascertain the factors contributing to the incident and implement necessary measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
