Pune: Lalit Patil drug racket case! Chief of Sassoon Hospital’s prisoner patient committee resigns

PUNE: The Chief of Sassoon Hospital’s prisoner patient committee has resigned because he is under a cloud for his alleged involvement in the Lalit Patil drug case. The official has been identified as Dr Sudhir Dhiware. He had been appointed as the chief of the committee on October 27. However, he is not connected with the Lalit Patil drug case and the recent happenings in the Sassoon Hospital. However, since efforts were being made to involve him in the case, he resigned from the post.

Prisoners are treated in ward number 16 of Sassoon Hospital. Inmates of Yerawada Central Prison are treated in the ward. The committee decides about the type of treatment to be given to the prisoners and the duration of his stay. However, new information is coming to light in the Lalit Patil drug case. All decisions regarding Lalit Patil are being taken by the Dean of Sassoon Hospital Dr Sanjeev Thakur and the earlier dean. Hence, Dhiware who was fed up, has resigned from the post.

Lalit Patil had escaped from Sassoon Hospital on October 2. However, Dhiware had been appointed the chief of the committee on September 27. However, efforts are being made to involve him in the case although he doesn’t have any connection with it. No evidence has been found that he has tried to help Lalit Patil. However, the administration of Sassoon Hospital was pressurising him to take responsibility in this case. Hence, Dhiware has resigned from the post.

To extend the stay of Lalit Patil in Sassoon Hospital, it was being shown on official records that he was suffering from various ailments. When the Yerawada prison officials sought information about Lalit Patil, Dr Sanjeev Thakur had informed that Patil was suffering from tuberculosis. Sassoon Hospital has shown in its records that Patil was suffering from various health problems during the last three years. Sudhir Dhiware has also signed the report.
