Pune Knowledge Cluster Takes Stride in Disease Control: Workshop Trains Health Workers in Modern Techniques

In a significant move towards advancing disease control measures, the Pune Knowledge Cluster (PKC) has launched an empowering workshop to train health workers in modern survey techniques for insect-borne diseases. This initiative aims to revolutionize the traditional methods employed by health workers, providing them with updated scientific knowledge to ensure a more effective and precise approach to disease control.

The workshop, focusing on the survey of insect-borne diseases, covers disease identification, control measures, and community awareness. Health workers participating in this training will gain scientific insights into recognizing disease symptoms, collecting blood samples, distributing medicines, identifying mosquito breeding sites, and monitoring epidemic control measures. The goal is to enhance the skills of health workers, enabling them to contribute more effectively to combatting insect-borne diseases.

Previously conducted for health workers of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the training has been particularly tailored to address the rising cases of dengue in Pune city. State Entomologist Dr. Mahendra Jagtap, officials from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Health Department, and scientists from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) are actively guiding the staff. Collaborating experts from Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital, Prayas, and the India Meteorological Department contribute to the comprehensive training program.

Working in collaboration with District Winter Officer Dr. Suresh Dhekle, the Pune Knowledge Cluster has extended the training program to cover 13 talukas in Pune district. Health workers from 11 talukas have already completed the training, with upcoming sessions set to include workers from Daund and Shirur talukas, completing the comprehensive training for all 13 talukas in the district.
