Pune: Commissioner of Police (CP) Retesh Kumarr has detained hardened criminal Faizal alias Gattya Karim Sheikh (27), a resident of Gultekdi, under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA) 1981. He was terrorising people in the Swargate area. This is the 61st MPDA action taken by CP Kumarr.

Faizal Sheikh is a goon on police records. He, along with his accomplices, had attempted to kill with arms such as swords, sickles and knives. They have also been booked for other serious crimes such as molestation, causing injury, extortion, riots and possessing illegal arms. Four serious crimes were registered against Sheikh in the past four years. Public order was disturbed due to their criminal activities. Citizens were frightened to lodge complaints against him.

Senior Police Inspector attached to Swargate Police Station Sunil Zaware had sent a proposal in this regard to the CP. Based on the proposal and after scrutinising the documents, CP Retesh Kumarr ordered his officials to detain Sheikh under the MPDA at the Amravati Central Prison. The action was taken by Sr PI Sunil Zaware, Crime Branch, PCB Sr PI AT Khobare, police officers and personnel.

CP Kumarr has acted against criminals in the city to control their activities and prevent crimes against the lives and properties of citizens. He has invoked provisions of the MPDA and the MCOCA against hardened criminals.

This was CP Kumarr’s 61st such action against notorious goons in the past 10 months since he took charge of the CP’s post.
