PUNE: Drought-like situation prevails in 13 districts out of 36 districts. During the June 1 to September 18 period, in 13 districts, there is more than 20 per cent deficit in rainfall. There is more than 40 per cent deficit in the rainfall recorded in Nagar, Sangli, Satara, Jalna and Beed which have worsened the situation.
Hence, there is a need to take immediate steps to tackle the drought.

According to information made available by the IMD, there was a deficit of 9 per cent considering the period from June 1 to September 18. During this period, the average rainfall recorded is 927.9 mm but actually, only 845.4 mm rainfall has been recorded. There is a deficit of more than 45 per cent in Nagar and Sangli, 40 per cent less in Satara, 27 per cent less in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, 43 per cent less in Jalna, 19 per cent less in Nanded, 30 per cent less in Amravati, 22 per cent less in Washim, 35 per cent less in Solapur, 43 per cent less in Beed, 32 per cent less in Dharashiv, 31 per cent less in Parbhani and 29 per cent in Akola. There is deficit of 22 pc in Marathwada, 19 pc deficit in Madhya Maharashtra and 7 pc deficit in Vidarbha.

When an average rainfall of 894.1 mm was expected, only 827.4 mm has been recorded. In Marathwada, there is a deficit of 22 pc. The region records an average rainfall of 579.3 mm but actually, only 452 mm rain has been recorded. In Madhya Maharashtra, there is 19 pc deficit. The region records rain of 677.4 mm but only 546 mm rain has been recorded. Although, it has rained six pc more than the average, in Ratnagiri, it is less than 5 pc and eight pc less in Mumbai.

Eight districts in the state have recorded average rainfall. In Palghar, it is 19 pc more, 9 pc more in Raigad, 28 pc in suburbs of Mumbai, 25 pc in Thane, 19 pc in Nanded, one pc in Buldhana, three pc in Gadchiroli and seven pc more in Yavatmal. Only 19 per cent less and more rainfall than the average rainfall is considered.
